Patrick Flaherty

ABOUT Patrick

Born and raised in Eastern Washington, Patrick didn’t stand much of a chance at a life without horses. With a mom as a doctor and a dad who ran a packing business, Patrick’s first babysitter was a 16 hand black mare. “My dad would put me on Shamrock and let her take me around while he did the chores.” Patrick has not gotten off a horse since he could sit up. He showed as a youth and began seeking a higher level of horsemanship. He began spending summers working for Al Dunning as a freshman in high school. He continued to spend every break from school with Al until he decided he did not want to come home. He finished high school a year early and began working full time at Almosta Ranch in the Fall of 2001. In addition to learning the ways of the Reining, Cutting, and Working Cow Horse, Patrick learned about life and the importance of a solid reputation.  “Working for Al, I was able to see how to make a business out of my passion. Working hard is only part of the equation; you must leave room for God and Family.” During his four years at the ranch, Patrick finished his Associates Degree in Equine Science and met his future wife, Janelle. When another opportunity to focus on primarily reining horses presented itself, Patrick moved to Joliet, Montana to work for the Cottonwood Colt Company. He started colts and trained them through to their first show.  Being away from Janelle, confirmed in both their minds marriage was the only option. Patrick and Janelle were married in June 2006 and upon returning from their honeymoon learned of an opportunity to move back to Arizona. In September, Patrick began working for Loma Vista Farm starting and training Dealin Dirty offspring. Two years later, he was still training out of Loma Vista Farm but opened up shop as Patrick Flaherty Performance Horses, LLC; a dream that at times seemed would take a long time to become a reality. Patrick Flaherty Performance Horses currently resides at Outwest Stallion Station in Scottsdale, AZ. Patrick’s most recent accomplishments include being a multiple NRHA Futurity Finalist, multiple Derby and Futurity Champion and Reserve Championships throughout the Southwest as well as at other major NRHA events. Although he has many titles, he most loved title is being Dad to Logan and Layla. He has had his judging card since Fall of 2011 and currently holds the NRHA Professionals Committee Chair position.
