Nathan Piper
ABOUT Nathan
Nathan Piper was born in Bryan, Texas, where he grew up showing reining horses as a youth in AQHA, NRHA, and 4-H competition. Born into a family and community of Aggies, Nathan attended Texas A&M University and majored in Agricultural Development. During his junior year of college he decided to forgo his non-pro status and become an NRHA professional. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1999 and married his wife Jean in 2000.
After graduation, the newlyweds moved to Whitesboro, Texas, where Nathan worked for two time NRHA Futurity Champion, Todd Sommers as an assistant trainer. In 2004, Nathan and his wife Jean purchased a training facility in Madisonville, Texas, where they successfully continued to build on the young legacy of Nathan Piper Reining Horses.
In 2009, the couple sold their ranch in Madisonville and returned to north Texas, where they continued on their quest. Over the next few years Nathan and Jeanwelcomed two beautiful daughters, Millie and Etta, who can be heard loudest among the cheering section. Nathan Piper Reining horses currently resides in Whitesboro, TX.
Nathan is a multiple time NRHA Open Futurity, Derby and NRBC finalist with lifetime earnings in excess of $940,000. He made his first NRHA Open Futurity Finals aboard Thechexkeepmestylin in 2010, and the following years have been a success on horses such as ChicksSmokingun, Gunnin For Chicks, In Like Flinn, Alwaysgotyergunsup, Shiners Crown Jewel, Independence Day Spook, High Rolling Spook, Smart Ebony Spook, and Patriot, who Nathan piloted to the prestigious NRBC Open L4 Champion title as well as the AQHA World Championship in Junior Reining, both in 2019.
Nathan has also proven to have an extremely successful non-pro program with his non-pro riders earning over $500,000, and claiming multiple titles of NRHA L1, L2, L3 Non Pro Futurity Championships, Affiliate Finals,World Championships, and finalist honors at every major reining event.
